Why is buffing NOT the best way to fix yellow or cloudy headlights?

Why do plastic headlights yellow, get cloudy, and even peel? You might be surprised to know that even though Driving at night with yellow or cloudy plastic headlights can be very dangerous and lead to fatal deaths.things don't tend to stick well to plastic (hence, why we make many food containers using plastic), plastic is actually porous like a sponge. You've likely figured this out after putting red spaghetti sauce into an old, clear plastic container. No matter how much you scrub, the red sauce doesn't wash away because it actually got soaked up into the pores of the plastic. The same thing occurs with your vehicle's plastic headlights. Night DrivingYellow headlights are not just an issue of cosmetics. They can lead to lack of visibilty when driving at night and possibly cause a fatal car accident. The factory sprayed a coating to seal these pores from the dirt and grime from the road, but in time this coating breaks down and sucks up all the yellow grime even worse than bare plastic itself!

What's the best way to fix them? Many people think they just need to be cleaned or buffed. However, doing this may remove the yellow, but doesn't solve the real problem-the corroded factory coating. Because of this,headlght_monkey we gave up buffing a long time ago. Headlights re-yellowed in time and our customers have found that such a fix is ultimately temporary. After spending lots of money and elbow grease, they've brought them to us. We don't buff, we refinish with automotive clear coat!

Why refinish with automotive clear coat? Simply put, it's more permanent, fast, and cheaper than buying a brand new set of headlights. We prepare the plastic surface and refinish them using proven autobody repair techniques. We do not use inferior 'wipe-on' sealers like some techs. We use two-part, chemically hardened, automotive-grade clear coats and plastic adhesion promoters. They are durable and rated to last for years!
